What to expect

What to expect from our nutritional consultations

I follow the principles of Functional Medicine, which focuses on the underlying causes of illness. It is a form of alternative medicine but is grounded in the most up-to-date science and medical research. Consideration of the biological pathways that maintain homeostasis within the body is made, alongside focusing on co-factors and inhibitors to the processes within the body.

What to expect during a pre-consultation chat

If you want to find out more about how I could help you and we could work together, or you just want some take-away tips to help you get started, book a free 20-minute call.  After this call there is no pressure or obligation for another consultation.

What to expect at an initial consultation

Before the consultation, clients are asked to complete:

  • A short questionnaire regarding current medications and supplements taken and family medical history. This is requested in advance as sometimes it is just hard to remember these details off the top of your head.
  • A simple 3-day food/drink diary – The most important part of this process is to be honest. This will be reviewed during the consultation in a non-judgemental way.

During the actual consultation, we will discuss in detail these key areas:

  • Your health goals focusing on two particular areas of concern.
  • All systems of the body to get a picture of you as a whole person.
  • Your/family’s past medical history and medications taken.
  • Your 3-day food diary, general food likes and dislikes, and eating patterns.
  • Lifestyle and environmental factors which may be affecting your health.

This part of the consultation should take about an hour to complete. With the aim of getting to the root cause of your health issues and determining the driving factors behind them.

We will then schedule another 30-minute session to discuss your individual nutrition and lifestyle plan, which will include suggested dietary and lifestyle adjustments and maybe supplement programs. This session is very much a two-way discussion, the plan is not meant to be unrealistic and only be followed for a limited time, but to be constructive with practical tips that are easy to follow so that you can see and feel the transformation in just a few weeks.

What to expect at a follow-up consultation

Before the consultation, clients are asked to complete:

  • An up-to-date 3-day food/drink diary

During the follow-up consultation, we use your 3-day food diary as a starting point to review how you have been progressing with the nutritional plan. Then I will focus on how I can assist you in removing any barriers to making those changes and discussing any additional health concerns you may have. I will then email you the updated Nutritional and Lifestyle Plan, which will be based on our discussions.

In between consultations

I am available for email support and regular check-ins to assist you in making the changes necessary to either maintain good health or alleviate your health issues. My role at this point would involve health coaching and mentoring you throughout your journey to ensure these healthier habits are embedded.

“I saw Mia and she recommended a change to my diet.  I haven’t looked back.  I really needed to refocus on what I ate and she helped me do just that.  I haven’t felt this good in years.”
